Sheriff warns parents about roadway items

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Rackley is warning parents to talk with their children about the dangers of playing with items they might find along the sides of the roadway.

Officers are finding items used in the process of manufacturing methamphetamine. Some of the items contain acids and other chemicals that could cause injury or death to anyone who handles them without training.

Rackley reports that items found on Hackberry Road near Durrington Creek on March 24 contained acid that had to be naturalized with baking soda for safe handling.

The acid was inside a plastic Mountain Dew bottle with a plastic tube attached to the bottle. Rackley fears that if a child were to squeeze the bottle the acid could be sprayed or spilled on the child.

He is asking everyone to contact the sheriff's office or police department if they suspect an item found to be part of a methamphetamine lab or the chemicals used in the process.

If anyone feels a suspected item may pose an immediate danger, call 911 or the Dallas County Sheriff's office at 345-2441.
