Golf Tournament Kicks Off 8th Annual S.W. MO 
Celtic Heritage Festival & Highland Games

The 8th Annual Southwest Missouri Celtic Heritage Festival & Highland Games will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 10th and 11th, 2010. On Friday, to kick off the event, there will be a Golf Tournament featuring a 2-man scramble. To schedule tee times, and for more info, contact Bill Bryant at 417-345-4815 or the Chamber at 417-345-2852. The Ceilidh begins the actual Festival with the Calling of the Clans on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. The festival is located at the Old City Park and Fairgrounds in Buffalo. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend again this year.

Entertainment is scheduled on three stages throughout the day on Saturday. The featured band will be "Tullamore" out of Kansas City. Other entertainers include Deryl Dickerson; Tom Meehan; Emily Wyatt; Sarah Hook; Nancy Green; Jon Reneau; Flower O'Scotland; 2 Cents Plain; Heidi Reneau and Dancers; and the infamous Scotty Fox who is enjoyed by all ages.

Many family "Clan" booths will be set up including a genealogist who can assist visitors in their genealogy quest. Clan MacLeod is this year's Honored Clan. There will be a "Tartan Parade" and "Official Ceremonies" at Noon on Saturday.

Celtic merchandise vendors will present their wares and ample traditional foods will be served both on Friday and Saturday. There will be an afternoon "Tea" featuring a sampling of authentic Celtic items. The famous "Highland Coowich" will be featured which is made from Scottish Heiland Coo's.

Demonstrations of Border Collie/Sheep herding and Blacksmithing will be presented during the day. In the "Beasti Barn", visitors will be able to pet Scottish Highland Cattle and Irish Dexter Cattle, as well as Shetland and Cheviot Sheep and Irish Wolfhounds. Dickerson Park Zoo will provide presentations with three different Birds of Prey. The Clydesdale Horses will be providing carriage rides. Flower O'Scotland dancers will be presenting lessons for anyone interested in learning to dance. The Amtguard Reenactors will be demonstrating sword fighting all day. There will be an Archery Booth for both young and old to try their skills. And, an original Scottish Sword Show

Children's activities will include face-painting, Scottish Kiddie Games (Sheaf Toss, Caber Toss, and Stone Toss), Kiddie Storytelling Corner, and amateur dancing performances. Entertainment will be provided by the infamous "Scotty Fox" puppet show throughout the day. All activities in the Kids Realm are free.

Vest Family, Reunion.

The annual reunion of descendants of James K. Polk Vest (1844 - 1896) and Elizabeth "Franklin" Vest (1845 - 1913) will be held in Buffalo, Missouri on Sunday, September 5, 2010 from 10:00am until 4:00pm.
 
The reunion will be held at the Engle's Senior Center, 103 S Maple Street, Buffalo. It is located on the old square across the street from the Dallas County court house.
 
Attendees are asked to bring a pot luck dish. Refreshments are furnished. A program is being developed. Visiting, family stories and singing are always included.
